Andhra University stands as one of the oldest educational establishments in the nation, boasting the distinction of being the pioneer residential and teaching-cum-affiliating University. Its primary focus lies in post-graduate teaching and research.
The institution holds a special place in the hearts of the State’s residents, stemming from its origin through a prolonged and united effort of the Telugu elite. This effort aimed to establish a university in the educationally underprivileged northern Circars and Ceded districts of the former Madras Presidency.
Established in 1926 through the Madras Act of 1926, Andhra University is now 97 years old. Its founding Vice-Chancellor, Sir C.R. Reddy, played a pivotal role, and his visionary initiatives have proven to be immensely fruitful over the course of its rich history.
